Katz, Ward named best bearded bartenders

Time Out New York and Grub Street today have a great wrap up of a bartender beard contest of biblical proportion.

Mixologist Allen Katz might have taken home the top prize for best beard, but it was Death and Company’s Phil Ward that took home top prizes in several categories, including most absorbent beard and best runway show — that's him as Jesus above.

The competition started back in August as bartenders were challenged to grow out their facial fuzz. On Dec. 30 fur flew as they competed in several events (such as beer soaking) to see who had the top Vandyke.
