McCarren Park Pool update and fundraiserBy Sam Goldman
UPDATE: The meeting time has changed. The Parks Dept. and architects Rogers & Marvel will provide a public update on McCarren Park Pool renovations at the Community Board meeting on February 10th at 6:30 pm at the Swinging 60's Senior Citizens Center (211 Ainslie St., corner of Manhattan Ave.). Please note that there will NOT be a meeting at Our Lady of Snow tonight.
Those in the know, will remember the days of outdoor Slip-N-Slides and live music at the McCarren Park Pool have come to an end — for now. The city is currently renovating the pool for its original aquatic use as well as winter ice-skating and, yes, "off-season performances." The Open Space Alliance — a civic group that, with the city's blessing, has a formal voice in the development of, well, open spaces throughout the neighborhoods — has sent out an update on the pool's construction, which remains on schedule. For those who want more information, But for those who would rather leave the planning to the pros but support the Open Space Alliance's mission, may I suggest the Beer My Valentine event, at Radegast Beer Hall (113 North 3rd Street) on Feb. 12 at 7:30 p.m. Thirty bucks buys you all the beer and grilled food your love-starved heart could handle, along with a Balkan gypsy band. And all proceeds go to benefit the Pool, so when you down those pints, your liver will know it's all for a good cause. |
