I'll admit that I usually only go to southern Brooklyn to ride the Cyclone. However, Monday night brought the opening of Sycamore in Ditmas Park, and a chance to check out a bar with a unique setup in an area I rarely frequent.
Sycamore is a flower shop in front, with a bar in the back, so you can buy those flowers to make up for the hours and dollars you spent at the pub without picking through the dead roses at the local bodega. When we arrived there didn't seem to be much in the way of floral arrangements, however, and the bar was occupied by a few people watching the football game on the tv in the front corner.

The selection of liquor was small yet decent, with an especially appealing assortment of gins and scotches. Sycamore has no cocktail menu to speak of, but the bartender didn't seem abject to experimenting if asked. I stuck with beer, surprised and delighted that they carried Ommegang (and for a very reasonable six dollars a bottle).
Sycamore also has an expansive back patio, with chairs and tables for outside drinking, which would've made it a wonderful spot for the summer that is almost over. The bartender was still figuring out the prices and locations of certain drinks, but was friendly and talkative.
All in all, if you don't live in the area, Sycamore is not the kind of place that will get you on the subway to come hang. That being said, in an area not known for it's drinking establishments, Sycamore certainly gives the neighborhood a meeting place to down a few and watch the game with friends.
