Titus Andronicus at Lit Lounge

It's likely that you've heard a lot about Titus Andronicus lately.  Maybe you just missed their recent slot opening for The Dirtbombs at Maxwell's.  Or maybe you showed up after their set and just caught their guest appearance with Yo La Tengo at the last McCarren Park Pool Party where they sang "Where Eagles Dare," inspiring you to rock your devil lock one more time.  Whatever the case may be, you are out of excuses if you missed the show at Lit Lounge Friday night, where the boys played a party for 'Sup Magazine.

The basement cave that passes for a perfomance space (also know as Lit Lounge) was packed to the brim with people waiting to see Titus.  The heat was so stifling that the walls seeped condensation, and, to make things worse, people were packed against each other from the stage all the way down the narrow room to the bar in the back.  Band members were even overheard discussing the sweaty conditions- joking about playing a (much) shorter set.

Taking the stage around 11pm, Titus Andronicus wasted no time kicking into their set, opening with "Fear and Loathing in Mahwah, New Jersey," the opening track off of their full-length The Airing of Grievances.  The audience swayed and danced as one singular unit along with the songs.  It wasn't hard to tell the older fans from the ones that had caught one of their more recent shows- with the diehards singing along to every word.

The set was a noisy mess, and they ended after 45 minutes- soaking wet and leaving the audience cheering before the exodus up the stairs for fresh air and a cigarette.
